Community Archaeology on the Mendip Plateau

Festival of Archaeology 2015 organised by the Council for British Archaeology

Excavation at Manor Farm, Emborough July 18 and 19, 2015

Rain held off and we had a most successful event. At the kind invitation of Paul and Kay Trippick ten members of the public tried their hand at excavation techniques over the weekend, including trowelling, levelling, finds washing and identification. We had two trenches open. In one we had hoped to find evidence of a pillowmound. Alas, nothing, but in the other one we found a rather nicely built wall. What it was for we have no idea.

Our guests were provided with brand new equipment bought for the occasion and kept happy with copious amounts of tea, coffee and homemade cakes courtesy of Kay and our team members
