Community Archaeology on the Mendip Plateau

The Spring dig has had to be downsized for various reasons. Instead we are doing a series of test pits in the village in order to retrieve natural clays and hopefully medieval pottery. The clays will form part of a project to make replica medieval pottery and fire in a bonfire, then break and study the pottery fabrics to see if they resemble to medieval pottery we find on our dig site. All this will feed into a county wide study of which we are a part.

Date tba. Guided tour of Wells Cathedral with particular reference to the geology of the stonework and the quarries of Mendip.

A visit, when the weather is warmer, to Martin Green's Farm.
